The photo on the left, supplied by the National Symphony Orchestra shows Mstislav Rostropovich conducting the U.S. National Symphony Orchestra in Moscow’s Red Square in the shadow of St.Basil’s and the Kremlin in 1993. It was the first orchestral concert in Red Square and was attended by Boris Yeltsin. Rostropovich died in a Moscow cancer hospital Friday, April 27, 2007, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported. He was 80.
