.at/on main soundwork is offered through electroacoustic ambient and glitch and drone flavors. ‘fon a’ and ‘fon b’ are two small pieces of glitch ambient and experimental noise that together make up one complete story. ’scape-01′ and ‘Products of Passed Days’ are much more on the ambient drone side, lenghtier and more spatious pieces, with a twist of dark ambient throughout. Della ripubblicazione di Tellus (“rivista su audio cassetta” lanciata nel 1983 a New York) da parte di UBUWeb abbiamo già parlato.
Oggi vi presentiamo il numero 10, uscito nel 1985 e dedicato ai chitarristi della scena newyorkwese (e dintorni) dell’epoca [fra i più noti (pochi) Arto Lindsay, Glenn Branca, Lydia Lunch]. Il genere spazia dal post punk, al minimalismo, all’improvvisazione, il tutto non privo di ironia in certi brani.
Come al solito, Tellus si concentrava sulla sperimentazione, sull’anormalità e sull’estremo. 28 brani, dai 2 ai 5 minuti, in cui, a volte, è difficile riconoscere la chitarra.

Il festival Eterotopie è l’appuntamento annuale dedicato all’esplorazione delle tendenze delle arti contemporanee organizzato dall’Associazione Culturale Diabolus in Musica. Immerso nella magnifica cornice di Palazzo Te a Mantova, il festival si configura come una piattaforma intermediale, in cui interagiscono i diversi linguaggi della musica, della danza, del cinema, delle arti visive e del teatro.
Concerti dedicati a figure centrali della musica contemporanea sono affiancati da performance di compagnie di teatro e danza di livello internazionale e da installazioni multimediali di giovani artisti e compositori emergenti che silenziosamente e coraggiosamente descrivono e creano il paesaggio sonoro e visivo del nostro tempo.
La rassegna si articola in 7 giornate, dal 27 agosto al 2 settembre. Egoisticamente vi segnalo:

A cellphone ringtone that chants “condom, condom!” has been launched in India to promote safe sex and tackle the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The “condom a cappella” has been designed to break down Indians’ reluctance to discuss condom use and to make wearing a condom more acceptable.
Organisers of the campaign, funded by the foundation set up by Microsoft mogul Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, hope the ringtone will become a craze among young Indians.
Perdonate la vaga oscenità, ma questo è proprio il titolo della suoneria realizzata dalla BBC, dal governo indiano e dalla Fondazione Gates (quella di Bill Gates e la moglie Melinda) per promuovere l’uso del preservativo in India, infatti è costituita dalla parola condom ripetuta ossessivamente da un coretto a cappella.

Vedo che non sono l’unico ad avere di queste curiosità.
È uscito in paperback il libro “The World without us” del divulgatore scientifico Alan Weisman. Le sue profezie sono decisamente pessimistiche:

In the wrong place at the wrong time, Marcus and his crew are apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security and whisked away to a secret prison where they’re mercilessly interrogated for days.
When the DHS finally releases them, Marcus discovers that his city has become a police state where every citizen is treated like a potential terrorist. He knows that no one will believe his story, which leaves him only one option: to take down the DHS himself.

Clepsydra is a piece by Horatiu Radulescu for 16 sound icons.
This instrument, created by Radulescu itself, is a a grand piano laying vertically on its side, with the strings played in different ways: plucked, as a percussion instrument or by bowing.

Clepsydra è un brano di Radulescu per 16 sound icon.
Questo strumento è una invenzione dello stesso Radulescu. Si tratta di un pianoforte privato del coperchio e appoggiato su di un lato, in verticale, in modo che sia possibile accedere alle corde che vengono suonate in vari modi: pizzicate, percosse oppure passando fra loro dei fili di nylon o dei crini, con risultati simili ad un archetto. L’accordatura è non standard, definita dall’autore. In fondo è simile al bowed piano di cui abbiamo già parlato.
