All of this, however, also reveals something else. Anyone who has used Max/MSP will have noticed that a medium-complexity patch produces a tangle of virtual cables comparable to the one in the photo. This means that current software is not a revolution at all, but rather a virtual mimic of the reality of the 1980s.
