1 Laptop Per Child

OLPC

With a little digital wizardry, John Lennon returns, with his image and voice, to support the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) campaign aimed at bridging the digital divide.

This is Negroponte's famous project that started with the idea of designing a laptop that could be sold for $100. It is currently called XO-Laptop and the starting price is $199, with the intention of gradually decreasing as production increases. The idea is to sell a bundle of two laptops for $399 in total in the US and Europe, via Amazon, one of which is delivered to the buyer while the other goes to OLPC.

The video is a little magic because, while it's easy to put together a speech from recorded material, it's difficult to do so with the right inflection, and it's also unlikely that Lennon, while alive, ever uttered the neologism "laptop."
