42 years of cell phones
42 years ago (now 2025) the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X was the first portable telephone (click image to enlarge).
On October 13, 1983, Bob Barnett, president of Ameritech Mobile Communications, made the first commercial call in history, sitting comfortably in a Chrysler convertible in Chicago, calling the great-grandson of Alexander Graham Bell, who was in Germany at the time.
