Across the universe

On the night between Monday and Tuesday, at midnight UTC (1:00 AM Italian time), NASA radio-beamed Across the Universe from an antenna near Madrid toward the North Star.

All this to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song (released in 1969 but composed in 1968), the 45th anniversary of NASA's Deep Space Network, and the 50th anniversary of NASA itself.

The Beatles' song, mostly composed by John Lennon, will travel at the speed of light for 431 years, covering 2.5 quadrillion miles until it reaches Polaris, the north star.
