Today the internet is testing IPV6, the protocol created to solve the problem of running out of IP numbers, which will become 8 bytes instead of the current 4.
This means that internet addresses will go from 4,294,967,296 to the disproportionate number of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (actually a few fewer, since those ending in 0 and 255, and some others, are not assignable for technical reasons). The remainder is still enough to assign one to every present and future human being, which opens up interesting prospects.
You probably won't notice anything today because this is just a test: IPV6 will be activated by 400 organizations, including Google, Facebook, and Yahoo, but in the meantime, the current IPV4 will continue to function normally.
In any case, you can check whether your machine is ready for the switch by simply clicking here.
