Koenji Hyakkei

Koenji Hyakkei’s (高円寺百景 = 100 Views of Koenji, according to Google) music sometimes is a little like Magma, but I like it.

They're a bit (a lot) Magma (who remembers the Frenchmen of Christian Vander?), but the complexity, the breaking away from the usual chorus-chorus pattern, and the energy make this piece above average.

Certainly, the whole thing reminds me a bit of Shostakovich, when he said that (in his case) "Russian music had a great future behind it"...

Yoshida Tatsuya – drums, vocals
Sakamoto Kengo – bass & voice
Kanazawa Miyako – keyboards & voice
Yamamoto Kyoko – vocals
Komori Keiko – reeds & voice
