YouTube is full of surprises. For a rather cheesy post-Christmas treat, here's a clip from 30 years ago: 1977, David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing The Little Drummer Boy, a trivial American Christmas song about...
...a poor young boy who, unable to afford a gift for the infant Jesus, plays his drum for the newborn with the Virgin Mary‘s approval. Miraculously, the baby, although a newborn, seems to understand and smiles at the boy in gratitude. [wikipedia]
Note from 2024
This is not the original 2008 video. That is, the video is the same, but in the original, the two sang a cappella (translation: without any orchestral accompaniment).
In the current version, however, orchestral accompaniment has been added, and the old version is no longer available.
Seriously, I can't understand how anyone could be so stupid and devoid of any sense of beauty as to not realize that it was precisely the fact that the two of them were singing a cappella that made a silly little song so beautiful.
