Another cute object that tries to build a listening path based on a couple of categories. musicovery
works with the intersection of mood (mood, character, from dark to
positive) and Energy (from Calm to Energetic). The selection can also be
Restricted to a certain genre and a particular historical period.
It works for free in low-phidelity (presumably MP3 128 BPR, but
however good for computer speakers) and for a fee in
High-Fidelity.
Try it. It also works with the classic (but not with the contemporary, there will be yes and no 10 pieces).
In my opinion, the greatest value of these objects is to make you listen to things that you would never have sought alone, but which in any case approach the chosen parameters.
It is interesting to spy on it inside and see how the songs is classified (info that the normal user does not see, but yes). Each song is classified according to the following parameters (I only report the main ones; the values you see
Here are those attributed to Gnossiennes di Satie).
artist=”Satie”
genre=”classique”
Mood_humeur=”143303″
Mood_energie=”37519″
Rythme_dance=”31266″
Rythme_tempo=”134835″
Orch_linearite=”847967″
Orch_energie=”0″
As you can see the mood list (with 2 values), another 2 values for the rhythm (time is probably the metronome and dance could be an estimate of the danceability), finally 2 values for linearity and energy.
Obviously the problem is the attribution of these values which, not being objective, but perceptive, should be made on a statistical basis with a large number of subjects.
In fact, it also depends on factors not strictly musical. For example, I think we agree that the Cavalcata delle Valkrie is a high energy and rather dark song. But, if there is no discussion on energy, there may be on the mood. I call him Dark because I know the context and I know where he arrives in the work, but if I didn't know? In other words, all the music of the Black Sabbath is dark, but knowing nothing about the black Sabbath and not being able to understand the text, what is it? The only possible answer comes from a test on many listeners.
In any case, the object is fun (now I am writing with its soundtrack, after selecting classic, very calm, very dark and at this moment I am listening to the adage of the concert for Piano #4 of LVB; then the Miserere of Allegri arrives). It is worth a visit and can become a game to spend some time.
Perhaps even the DJs should begin to worry about their job.
