Noteflight is a web-based tool for writing music via browser. It's essentially a music editing program hosted on a website.
The scores you enter can be shared and/or exported to MusicXML, which can then be imported into major software of this type. The application is free for non-commercial use and offers a more powerful version, called Premium, for commercial use at $49/year (or $7.95/month).
It runs on HTML5, so browsers must support it. According to them, it should work with all current versions of major browsers.
Browser | Minimum Version |
Google Chrome | 54 |
Safari | 10.1 |
Microsoft Edge | 80 |
Firefox | 51 |
Mobile Safari | iOS 15 |
Android | There is an app but it is not mentioned in the FAQ |
Although, from my point of view, it's always better to keep everything in-house (I'm also wary of the various clouds), it's probably good that something like this exists, offering interesting prospects for sharing and collaboration.
