Xenakis – Rebonds b

Composed between 1987 and 1989, Rebonds b uses a mixed set of membrane instruments and wood blocks. An aggressive rhythmic ostinato, interpolated with violent accents, is gradually interrupted by rapid figurations performed on the wood blocks, until it gradually breaks down into strong rolls. In the final coda, another line on the wood blocks is progressively superimposed on the initial ostinato, in a counterpoint that will evolve into the sonic exasperation of the final measures.
