Schoenberg on YouTube

The Arnold Schönberg Center and the composer's estate have recently posted several video clips on YouTube featuring performances, historical testimonies, interviews, and other material from the archive.

One of the nice things is that historical videos often feature his music as background. Looking at them I thought that by now it seems almost melodic and I was reminded of a quote by Cage about his Winter Music:

We’ve played ‘Winter Music’ quite a number of times now: I haven’t kept count.
When we first played it the silences seemed very long and the sounds seemed really separated in space, not obstructing one another. In Stockholm, however, when we played it at the opera as an interlude in the dance program given by Merce Cunningham and Carolyn Brown early one October, I noticed that it had become melodic.

Everything is destined to become melodic, sooner or later….
