Here is another stochastic work by Iannis Xenakis. The title is encoded: ST stands for stochos, 10-1 means it is the first composition in this series for 10 instruments, and 080262 is the date.

The interest of this piece lies in the fact that it is one of the first to be composed using software. At the time, Xenakis's work had attracted the attention of IBM, which provided programmers to formalize his compositional process.

As in other pieces from recent years, statistics and distribution theory underpin the entire composition (see Music and Mathematics 03).
