Textures

By Toru Takemitsu, I present this delightful 1964 Textures, recovered from an old vinyl record.

In this piece, the 73-piece orchestra is divided into two equal groups, placed on opposite sides of the centrally placed piano. This device, aided by the score, serves to achieve a marked stereophonic effect.

Furthermore, the score is soloistic, down to the level of the individual performer, creating elaborate and iridescent sound textures.
