Seebad Prora is a seaside resort designed and partially built on the German island of Rügen (Baltic Sea) between 1935 and 1939.
The aim of the project, conceived by the National Socialist organization Kraft durch Freude (KdF), was to build a seaside resort that could accommodate 20,000 holidaymakers.
After the outbreak of the Second World War, construction work was interrupted. Today, the central part of the overall project remains, the so-called Prora Colossus, composed of eight identical, side-by-side buildings that extend along the coast for a total of 4.5 km. Although currently protected as a historical monument, they are rapidly falling into disrepair. [wikipedia]
On one of the buildings, an unknown hand wrote this significant inscription (click to enlarge).
