an American independent film production and distribution company founded by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz in 1974.
The company produces independent, low-budget films that feature a high level of gore and nudity, are politically incorrect, and irreverent, many of which have become cult classics. It has produced and distributed over 800 films, including the early works of directors such as Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Brian De Palma and Oliver Stone, and actors such as Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Marisa Tomei.
Troma's most famous films include The Toxic Avenger, Tromeo and Juliet (a splatter and erotic reimagining of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet), Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Terror Firmer, and Cannibal! The Musical. With a few exceptions, most of Troma's films have remained unreleased in Italy.
Today, Troma Entertainment has its own YouTube channel, through which it has distributed more than 150 films for free, including some of the most famous.
