UTP

UTP (for UToPia), by Alva Noto (aka Carsten Nicolai) and Sakamoto Ryuichi, was born from an invitation from the city of Mannheim to develop an audiovisual show for the 400th anniversary of the city's founding.

In this recording, the two have abandoned the minimal style of electronic background and piano that characterized their previous works (Vrioon, Insen, Revep), expanding their timbral palette to include the sounds of a contemporary chamber music group, the Mannheim Ensemble Modern, and field recordings made in and around the city.
