Voix Blanche

Gilles Gobeil, Canadian, born in 1954, is the author of several electroacoustic works that also use the Onde Martenot.

This instrument, like the Theremin, has never died out, but is occasionally used by contemporary composers for its unique sound.
There are approximately 1,500 pieces in which the Ondes Martenot appear, composed by people such as Varèse, Messiaen, Honegger, Scelsi, Boulez, Jolivet, Murail, and many others. It is also used in film music (Mad Max, Mars Attack, March of the Penguins, etc.) and in popular music of various types (Brel, Radiohead, Vanessa Paradis, etc.).

Unlike others, Gilles Gobeil's interest is not episodic. His CD, Trilogie d’Ondes (empreintes DIGITALes, IMED 0576, 2005), includes three pieces for Ondes Martenot and electronic sounds.
Here we present Voix Blanche from 1988, which won second prize for mixed electroacoustic music at the 1989 Bourges International Competition.
