si potrebbe aprire una discussione in merito: un file audio (si fa per dire) di 4’33” è “musica”?
se sì, perché?
Sto ancora riflettendo sulla risposta al post “sciopero”, però questa mi pare potrebbe essere già una prima risposta…:-)
La discussione invece potrebbe esser interessante!
La fama di John Cage, e di 4’33’’ in particolare, stimolano evidentemente ancora molta curiosità. Mi chiedo se fra i commenti al file qualcuno si è lamentato perché “difettoso”.

un tool di esperti esperti legali inglesi ha effettivamente affrontato la questione concludendo che:
– non è musica in quanto non contiene alcuna azione musicale;
– non è teatro, sebbene vi sia una azione teatrale (il pianista chiude il piano), che però è troppo limitata
– è letteratura nella forma non tanto di romanzo/racconto quanto di manuale perché contiene istruzioni al fine di focalizzare l’attenzione del pubblico su qualcosa (i suoni ambientali)

Torno sull’argomento, forse un po’ in ritardo rispetto alle vostre considerazioni.
In effetti penso che nel caso di 4’33’’ non si possa parlare di musica, forse solo di “istruzioni per un concerto mimato”, in quanto, appunto, il suono sulla partitura è assente. Però non mi pare da sottovalutare l’intenzione di Cage di considerare elementi costitutivi del pezzo i suoni/rumori dell’ambiente durante l’esecuzione.
E mi chiedo anche: è importante sapere se 4’33” è da catalogare nell’archivio musica oppure altrove? Cioè, ne cambia i connotati? “Merda d’artista” è una scultura o semplicemente una cagata? Gli animali sotto formalina di Damien Hirst restano bestie macellate o si trasformano in qualcos’altro? Forse 4’33” può assumere di volta in volta significati e connotazioni diversi, o potrebbe essere semplicemente un momento in cui l’ascoltatore ha la possibilità di improvvisare, trasformandosi in artefice del suo silenzio, collaborando alla realizzazione di quello collettivo. Potrebbe essere semplicemente momento di libertà totale o contenitore di sensazioni. Dove lo metto?
Ho riportato le elucubrazioni degli inglesi solo a titolo di curiosità… dovevo aggiungere una faccina…
In effetto non è minimamente importante definire 4’33”. L’importante, però, è farla. Parteciparvi come pubblico e almeno una volta nella vita, come esecutore.
Come pubblico è abbastanza buffo e divertente: ti guardi in giro, vedi cosa fanno gli altri….
Come esecutore, da solo al piano, l’ho fatto una volta sola ed è stata una esperienza quasi terrificante. Forse perché erano gli anni ’70 e Cage non era ancora così famoso…
Il pubblico rumoreggiava e avevo l’impressione che avrebbe potuto tirarmi qualcosa addosso da un momento all’altro…
